Holiday Home Remodels

Don’t stress out

Gray tones holiday home entryway

It’s beginning to look a lot like the holidays. Unfortunately, the next month can also lead to a plentiful amount of stress, especially if you have taken on a home remodel project. Tasks like Christmas shopping and hosting parties, in addition to a remodel, are an excellent recipe for chaos! Does this sound like your life right now? Allow our expertise to guide you to sanity while completing joyful holiday tasks!

Get organized

To stay on top of project deadlines, create a list of items you need consistent access to for the rebuild duration. For example, if you are redoing a kitchen, try briefly moving some of your everyday kitchen items to an accessible area of your home. You can temporarily arrange your coffee pot, microwave, and also mini-fridge in a separate room. Bathroom remodel? Consider a move of your everyday needs to another spot for more effortless access. If the remodel is a bedroom, use an alternative location to make yours in a different area in your home.

Make a plan

If you plan to take on a kitchen conversion, consider meal prepping as a means of convenience and organization. This can allow you to save home-cooked dinners in the freezer before the beginning of the renovation, allowing you to simply select prepared meals and stick them in the microwave. Imagine the sense of relief you will feel to not worry about cooking dinner during the home improvements. Remember to also keep your favorite take-out restaurant menus and coupons in an accessible location. Special provisions will be necessary if you remodel your bathroom and do not have a second one in the home; make sure you have performed arrangements in advance.

Communication is key

Want to avoid undue stress with your contractor? Make sure you communicate any concerns and expectations you have before the project begins. For example, if time is a considerable concern for you, make sure to share when you expect the process to start, how many hours they can work in a day, where they should park their vehicles while at your residence, and where to dispose of garbage throughout the remodel. Asking questions upfront bypasses any problems or miscommunication between you and your contractor.

Get excited!

The holidays can be stressful, especially during a home renovation. However, this is a great time to get your project completed. Use a bulletin board or dry erase board to create a visual of the remodel progress. Consider making a list of steps needed for the plan and check them off as they are finished. This will keep your eye on the prize and help overcome undesired stress. Home remodels during the holidays are a guaranteed way to test your patience; try these pointers to mentally prepare before the process begins. Finally, remain organized and relaxed; allow the excitement of the holidays and the remodel to set in!
